10. Yakuza
Sure maybe the action in this beat em up RPG got a little repetitive from time
to time, but the story is really where it's at. Yakuza has the most riveting
story I have ever encountered in a video game.
9. Warriors Orochi
Okay, so maybe some people don't think that the inevitable Dynasty/Samurai
warriors crossover, but with one of the largest playable casts ever assembled
this is pure gold for a Koei fanboy like me!
8. Odin Sphere
The world of Odin Sphere is colorful and absolutely gorgeous, not to mention the
addictiveness of the gameplay and unforgettable cast of characters. This is one
RPG that'll make you ask "Who says 2D is dead?"
7. Soul Calibur II
Soul Calibur 2 is an amazing game with a lot to offer and I owe it a debt of
gratitude for turning me on to the fighting game genre. The fact that I spent
as much time in Arcade Mode as I do in most RPGs speaks for itself.
6. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Jungle stealth, equippable camo, eating live snakes, suturing your own wounds,
Eva's boobs, badass boss fights, an awesome story, Eva's ass, no Raiden, and
an epic sauce ending topped only by MGS4. I'm still in a dream Snake Eater.
5. Final Fantasy 12
When Squenix finally nixed "Battle Mode" and made combat seamless, I knew the
result would be awesome. And it is. With a highly political story, a colorful
cast (minus Vaan), and some Badass bosses, FF12 is one for the history books.
4. Valkyria Chronicles
A brilliant but unfortunately overlooked gem. The art style is gorgeous, the
story is absolutely enthralling, the characters are memorable, and the gameplay
is extremely addictive. It saddens me to see this one lost in the shuffle.
3. Pokemon: Red Version
He who denies his Pokemon fandom lies!! Everyone played Pokemon back in the day
and for good reason. It's amazingly fun and it's like crack for preteens. This is
this is one of the few games that I've spent 200+ hours on.
2. Steambot Chronicles
Steambot Chronicles is another gem that was sadly overlooked. While a bit slow
paced, it has a lot to offer anyone who can get into it. And I mean A LOT! How
many games can boast of their own stock market? Steambot can.
1. Star Ocean: Till the End of Time
Without a doubt my favorite RPG of all time and my all time favorite game in
general. It has a certain sentimental value for turning me on to RPG's and with
four different playthroughs, I have well over 400 hours well invested.
